In this episode of the World’s Most Exciting Classroom we’re live from Punta Arenas, Chile. We headed virtually to Norway to meet captain and expedition leader Andreas B. Heide or the Arctic Sense Expeditions. In June of 2023, the 37 foot sailing vessel Barba set sail from Norway for the Arctic sea ice, with a goal of collecting important information about our changing planet. They covered over 2,000 nautical miles during this expedition, exploring the sea ice around Arctic Svalbard. They used a variety of tools including drones and underwater cameras to film wildlife like orcas, walrus and humpback whales. Over several months, they braved dangerous conditions to document the realities of climate change in Svalbard, the wildlife, conduct scientific research and communicate their findings to the public through media. We checked out Darwin Leader Olivia Navarrete Zur’s first video highlighting the threats facing pumas in Argentinian Patagonia. See the results of the leaf compass experiment launched two weeks ago by our expedition leader, Stewart McPherson. Did your entry win one of three £50 prizes?
